Hostas in the Smokies - Third Time's a Charm
​June 2, 3, and 4, 2022

The third times a charm! The Dixie Region Meeting is scheduled for June 2 (arrival in Knoxville), 3 and 4 (tours, speakers, banquet), 2022. You can make your hotel reservations with the Holiday Inn West at Cedar Bluff (see information below). The registration form available below. Watch this slide show about the convention. We look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones!

The East Tennessee Hosta Society welcomes you to the Knoxville Metro area, a nine county area that is home to the Gateway to the Smoky Mountains and so much more! Plan your trip to stay longer than the convention to take in

Recently renovated, the Holiday Inn is located centrally in the Greater Knoxville area with easy access to many restaurants and Interstate 40.

Use this link and then select your arrival and departure dates. The group code (AHS) will automatically be completed. When calling to make reservation, make sure you specify you are with the Dixie Region of the American Hosta Society.

Registration Information

We've been able to hold the registration fee at the original $99. Registration deadline is May 13, 2022. If you register after this date, there is an additional fee of $26. If you will have more than one person in your party participating in the convention, each person must be registered. We are offering additional banquet reservations for non-participants at $45 each.

The attached pdf file is an interactive form. Simply save to your device, open it up, enter the information, print, and mail in with your check. The form will actually do the calculations for you! How easy is that!

Thursday, June 2, 2022:
     Registration desk in hotel lobby outside Gibby's (hotel bar and restaurant)
     Welcome party in Gibby's (hotel bar and restaurant) and "hostatality"
Friday, June 3, 2022:
​     Buses leave at 8:30 for "GATOP" (God's Answer to Our Prayers) Gardens and Ivan Racheff House and Gardens for a visit and boxed lunch at the last garden
     1:30 to 2:30 pm: Dixie Region Business Meeting
     2:30 to 4:30 pm: Hear from Brian White , Brian White's Nursery, discussing Hypertuffa, and Dr. Mark Windham, University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, discussing how to manage plant health of hosta and companion plants. We will have a refreshment break and time to visit with the vendors.
     Dinner on your own - there are lots of restaurants in the area (see info below).
​     8:00 to 10:00 pm: Hostatality in the Holiday Inn
​Saturday, June 4, 2022:
     Buses leave at 8:30 for Randy Stewart's Gardens then the Andersons Estate Gardens ending with a boxed lunch at the UT Gardens, Knoxville, part of the State Botanical Gardens, and visit to the Cornelia Holland Tranquility Hosta Garden
     2:00 to 4:30 pm: Hear from Dr. Mary Albrecht, University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, try to help demystify how plants get their names (yes, there are rules to follow!) and our own Bob Solberg, Green Hill Farm, helps us learn the in's and out's of growing hosta. We will have a refreshment break and time to visit with the vendors.
     6:00 to 6:45 pm Social with cash bar in the Cedar Room where you can see what will be available during the live auction. 
     6:45 to 9:00 pm Banquet buffet featuring Smokey Mountain BBQ with plenty of side dishes followed by awards, 2023 convention presentation, and a lively auction.
     9:00 to 10:00 pm: Hostatality in the Holiday Inn

Buses: Buses will be provided for travel to the gardens allowing for renewing friendships and creating new ones!

​Friday night dinner is on your own. Don't worry! Within an easy drive or using the hotel's shuttle, you can get to a number of restaurants from BBQ to sushi. Download the pdf for a map and list of eateries (this will be updated closer to the time of the convention). Includes addresses and phone numbers for your convenience.​
